Taco Terrier Dog - Taco Terrier Dog Breed Information
Taco Terrier Dog Breed Profile
Description. The Taco Terrier is a hybrid, or designer, dog. They are a small dog standing some 6-10 inches high and weighing 7-10 pounds. They are originally bred by crossing a pedigree Chihuahua and a pedigree Toy Fox Terrier. After the first mix the Taco Terrier should be bred with other Taco Terriers but they can also be bred with either of the original parent breeds. There can be some diversity to their look, depending on which bloodline was the father and which bloodline was favored by the mother. Generally speaking the Taco Terrier will have a short coat that is quite thick, and comes in numerous colours. They can be of an independent but demanding nature, and like to get their own way sometimes. They have a lot of energy and love playtime. They are also very affectionate and like to sit with you, or on your lap.
History. The Taco Terrier, as a hybrid, has no real history as they are such a new breed. the designer dogs have come about to be smaller and require less care, making them ideal pets for busy people who do not have the time to walk dogs for hours a day. The hybrid dogs also tend to be taken from the more intelligent breeds, so they will be easier to train. Hybrids are most commonly small dogs as well, so they can live in apartments. The modern wave of hybrids means that people who could not have dogs before, because of time and exercise etc can now have a pet, which is lower in demand and fits better into modern living. To add a level of consistency the dogs will probably end up having some form of standards written, supported by the dedicated breeders. For reliability it is always best to use a reputable breeder as there are some who just breed dogs as quickly and easily as possible, just to make quick money.
Temperament. The Taco Terrier is a dog with attitude. They are clever little dogs and learn quickly, with calm firm training methods. You need to assert yourself as the pack leader with this breed or small dog syndrome will probably ensue. Small dog syndrome is caused by owners not training their dog properly. These may be a tiny dog that is so cute, but they are a dog and happiest when treated as such. A dog is no happier being treated as a human than a human would be about being treated as a dog. Once the dog is aware of their place in the family they will be more relaxed and happy. This breed is not good with other household pets, especially other dogs. The Taco Terrier was bred for town living and will not do well in a rural area. They do not require lots of exercise and will be ok with two 15-20 minute walks a day, they will enjoy more.
Health issues. It is too early to have an accurate history of ailments, but it is always a good idea to check the health of both parents with the breeder. With a lifespan of 12-15 years the Taco Terrier appears a generally healthy breed.
Grooming. The Taco Terrier is very easy to care for with just the occasional brush and bathing only when needed.
Living conditions. As long as they are exercised and they get the required mental stimulation they will be happy in an apartment or small house. They are not country dogs and are not suitable for living in rural areas.
