Common Name: This beautiful designer dog breed is known by the name Maltichi, Malti-Chi, Malchi and Mal-Chi names.

Origin: The Maltichi is a designer breed that comes from full blood Maltese and Chihuahua Parents.

History: The Maltichi has been around about as long as the Maltese and Chihuahua breeds. Of course the first Maltichis probably came about by accident but within the last 10 years the Maltichi has become more popular because of all the people that are purchasing designer breeds.

Description: The Maltichi can come in a wide variety of colors and color combinations. The multiple Maltichi colors come from the Chihuahua. Some Maltipchis are parti colored, others solid. Some of the common colors of the Maltichi are White, Cream, Apricot, Silver, Gray, Black, Black and White, White and Cream, Apricot and Cream and to many more to mention. Your Maltichi Puppy could be a thick long coat or a sparse short coat.

For example if the Chihuahua has Blue Merle genes then it is possible to have a blue merle Maltichi puppy. You could also have a fawn brindle color like our Chihuahua Puppy Kitty Kat. These would be rare and you certainly couldn't breed for this particular color. The Chihuahua give the Malchi the chance to have a unique color. Since the Maltese is White, what you see is what you get.

Maltichi Puppies can be very tiny. The term "TEACUP" is merely an adjective to describe a smaller than standard size of this designer breed. The standard size is up to 7-8 lbs. The Teacup Maltichi dog is usually in the 3 to 4 lb or less weight range as an adult. Again this is simply a term used to describe a Maltichi that has been bred to be smaller than standard size. This happens when both Mom and Dad are smaller than standard size. Preferably Mom being in the 4 to 5 lb weight range and Dad being 3 lbs or less. Make sure you ask questions when talking to the Maltichi breeder.

Temperament:

The temperament or personality of your Maltichi dog will depend on a variety of factors. There are two factors that I consider to be the most important when it comes to the Maltichi breed.  

# 1 Both Parents of the Maltichi puppy need to be sweet natured and well socialized.

# 2 Each Maltichi puppy in the litter needs to be introduced to family members at an early age, including children and adults. Proper socialization of the Maltichi puppies is equally important.

Maltichi Puppies are generally intelligent. The Chihuahua is considered one of the more intelligent breeds and the Maltese are smart also. That doesn't mean they will be easy to train, only that they are trainable if done properly.

Maltichi puppies and dogs can live in many different environments. If you live in a colder climate then you should invest in a Coat or Sweater for your Maltichi dog or puppy. The Maltichi will be comfortable in an apartment, condo, house or country setting.

Exercise: It is important to give your Maltichi puppy or adult dog proper exercise. If you have a fenced in yard you can let your Maltichi run loose but I suggest you be out there with it to make sure they don't find a place to get out. Most Maltichi dogs can get enough exercise just playing and running in your apartment or house but every Maltichi puppy and dog that I've known loves to play outside.

This dog breed makes a good pet for a family or individual in a city or suburban home. It does well in an apartment. This Maltichi is very trusting and gentle with friends and family, including children but is somewhat wary of strangers. It is very affectionate, loves to give kisses and cuddle. The Maltichi makes an excellent lap dog.

Life Expectancy: The life expectancy of a Maltichi is 12-17 years or more. It is important to make sure your Maltichi puppy is up to date on all it's vaccinations, de-wormings. If your Maltichi puppy is over 12 weeks of age it will need a rabies vaccination before flying.
