Jack Chi Dog Breed Description, History, Temperament, Grooming, Colors, Size, Health Issues and More
History: The Jack Chi is still a very new dog and, unlike the breeds used, the history is only just starting. However this dog has lost a lot of the energy of the Jack Russell Terrier and gained by the mix with the Chihuahua and is a more calm pet. They have been bred to gain a new form of pet dog rather than the older type of working dog.
Temperament: The Jack Chi has gained lower energy from the Chihuahua and is an easier pet to own. They will love their family and enjoy being with the owner. This is not really a good dog with children due to the size but older children who can treat this dog as a dog will enjoy the dogs company. While the blend of these breeds has taken out a lot of the energy this is still a dog that will want to hunt and smaller pets within the home are not recommended. They do require good walks daily and it is best to keep the dog on a lead as they can go off on a chase. All dogs, and maybe even more so for small dogs, need house rules and boundaries to give them stability in the home. They need a pack leader, the owner, to set standards of behavior and to train this bright dog. If the dog is treated like a small baby then small dog syndrome can happen and this is where the dog becomes over protective of an object, seat or the owner and can become snappy. This is a good watch dog and can become aggressive if the owner doesn’t set boundaries as to what is and what is not acceptable when watching. They need a pack leader that can train them with basic obedience. This needs to be done in a non hostile way and a calm assertive leader works best. As they are bright they do benefit from daily mental exercise and this can be things like hide and seek of a toy to more skilled training.
Health issues: The Jack Chi has little recorded on any health issues but it is wise to read up on both breeds used to see if the history of health is good. The smaller Jack Chi dog is more likely to have health problems.
Grooming: The Jack Chi has a short but dense coat that will need brushing twice a week to keep out the dead hairs and add a nice shine to the coat.
Living conditions: The Jack Chi can live in an apartment if they have enough daily exercise both mentally and physically. The garden needs to be well fenced to stop the dog running off on a chase. This needs to be small or medium in size.
