HEALTHY DOG FOODS

You don't have to be Doc Dolittle to know that healthy dog foods are beneficial for your pet dog. These foods include various natural, holistic ingredients and exclude various additives. But, do you know which ones to get your pet?

The next time you agonize over what to get Spot or Dido, think of the human "food pyramid". Dog food should contain a particular ratio of different foods, so look for meals that are approximately 50% meat, 40% veggies, and 10% carbohydrates.

Marvelous Meat Meal
By nature, dogs are meat-eaters. Thus, when searching for holistic dog foods, look for those with a high content of something called "meat meal protein." Essentially, this is pre-cooked meat, so look for it in the label and then verify that meat meal is included as three of the top five ingredients in holistic dog food.

Dogs Cannot Live on Meat Alone
While you should not expect your dog to become a vegetarian, dogs still need certain minerals and vitamins from veggies. Make sure that the healthy dog food you choose has several different vitamins. For instance, Vitamin A can make your pet dog's vision sharper, and can also prevent different eye diseases, such as glaucoma.

Holistic dog food should also contain whole grains, so your canine gets the minerals, vitamins, and fiber that it needs. Excellent choices include barley, brown rice, rolled oats, and millet. However, keep in mind that you need to avoid refined grains, as dog food producers often add them as fillers.

Nature-Made Versus Man-made
To select the healthiest dog foods, choose those that are free of additives, such as preservatives, artificial flavors, and artificial colors, For instance, avoid the preservatives BHT and BHA, which could cause cancer. Instead, choose natural preservatives including Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

If you want your pet to be fit as a fiddle, give it healthy dog foods. Follow these tips to keep your dog happy and healthy-the natural way!
