History: The English Bulldog of today is quite different from the original English Bulldog bred a few hundred years ago. The English Bulldog was originally developed for butchers to help hold bulls. The Bulldog was later used in the cruel blood sport of Bull Baiting. This sport was outlawed around 1838. This caused the English Bulldog to be unwanted and basically not needed.

People during that time who fell in love with this breed fought to keep them alive as a companion dog. They love the sweet natured temperament of the English Bulldog as well as the unique appearance.

Description: The English Bulldog breed is a medium size dog but can weigh up to 70 lbs. The bulldog has a very large head that is both broad and square. The face is short with a upturned muzzle. The forehead is flat. The English Bulldog has massive jaws and its lower jaw is undershot. The nose is black and the eyes are dark. The English Bulldog is known world wide for it's small rose ears. The chest is broad and deep. The tail is naturally short and is either short or screwed. The skin is soft and loose, the more wrinkles the cuter this breed is. English Bulldog puppies are about as cute as it gets. They have lots of wrinkles as babies. The bulldog can come in a variety of colors including: Brindle, White, Fawn, Red and Piebald.

Temperament of the English Bulldog Breed: This breed is very affectionate, playful and gentle. Seems to have a stable personality. The English Bulldog is both courageous and equally strong but this breed tends to get along with almost everyone if treated properly. This breed does have a few bad habits including, drooling, snorting and farting or chronic flatulence. That's right the English bulldog has a tendency to fart often even as a puppy. This is quite funny but something that you will have to get used to. A proper diet does help curb this nasty little habit. The English Bulldog can also get scrappy with other dogs, part of the time in a playful manner but because of its size and power I suggest that you keep an eye on the bulldog when they are around a smaller breed or smaller English Bulldog.

Most English Bulldogs are good with Children and other dogs and animals but socialization is very important with this breed. I'll give you more details about the importance of socialization below.

The number one most important factor in my opinion is the temperament or personality of both parents. Both Mom and Dad need to be sweet natured with no bad personalities in their backgrounds either. Both parents need to be well socialized. Its important that the parents don't have a tendency to fight other dogs.

The second most important factor is socialization of the English Bulldog puppies. This begins at birth and continues until the English Bulldog puppy goes to it's new home. Each of the puppies need to be well socialized with children and adults alike. I consider both of these factors to be equally important.

Life Expectancy: The life expectancy of a English Bulldog is 12-17 years or more. It is important to make sure your Bulldog puppy is up to date on all it's vaccinations, de-wormings. If it is over 12 weeks of age before flying the puppy will need a rabies vaccination.

Registries: Almost all registries include the English Bulldog breed. Some of those registries are as follows: AKC, CKC, APR, APRI, UKC and ACA. There are other registries out there but these are the most popular ones.

# 5 IMPORTANT! When searching for English Bulldog Puppies make sure that the person your dealing with has a business or home phone and cell phone. If the only phone number they give you is a cell phone then please be careful. I don't know about you but if I'm spending $700.00 or more on a English Bulldog puppy then I expect to be able to get in touch with the breeder.
