Description: The Doodleman Pinscher is a mixed breed or hybrid dog. The dog is a cross between the Doberman Pinscher and the Standard Poodle. The blend of these dogs should show a good mix of both parental breeds. It has the muscular look of the Doberman Pinscher and the coat of the Poodle. The body is well built and muscular, the height is 24-28 inches and the weight is 55-75 pounds. The head is long and broad, the muzzle is wide and the nose is black. The ears are set close and hang down the sides of the head, these are not cropped. The eyes are set wide and are brown in color and almond in shape. The back is straight and the legs are well muscled and are straight. The coat is that of the Poodle and so is curly or wavy and the colors are more varied, this is usually brindle but there is white and black as well. There is no recorded life expectancy as yet for this dog.

History: As this is a hybrid dog the history is just in the making and a clearer picture will unfold over time. It is important to have some understanding of what a hybrid is and also what generation hybrid you’re likely to have. The first generation is when you have the pup from a Doberman Pinscher and the Poodle, then if that pup is used in the breeding program you can have second generation which can be Doodleman and Doodleman or it can be Doodleman and back to one of the pure breeds. So you see the picture is not clear and it is best to get a pup from a good breeder that has a good understanding of both dogs used in the first generation and know what they are doing with the second and indeed the third generation.

Temperament: The Doodleman tends to lean toward the Poodle in temperament and so you have a dog that is bright and easy going. They are loyal and love to be with the family. This is not a breed to have as an outside dog as they do not respond well to the isolation from their family. With this dog it can have a stubborn steak and training in obedience should start young and be carried on. Training needs to be consistent and the owner needs to be a good strong pack leader. This is not a first time dog owner dog but would benefit from someone who has leadership skills and can be firm but not harsh. They will need house rules and all humans need leadership skills to keep the dog in its rightful place within the family. They are good watchdogs and are not vicious. Socialize this dog well to cope with new situations and other dogs. The Doodleman is good with children; school age is best as this is a big dog. They get on well with other pets within the home and are good with other dogs. They need good walks daily and although not a dog to just lie around will need to go out with you daily. Mental exercise is needed to stop this dog getting bored.

Health issues: The Doodleman is a new breed and so has not yet got any recorded health problems but it is wise to have a dog from a good breeder that does health checks on all breeding dogs and can show you the parent’s health. Read up on both dog breeds to get a good overall picture of what health problems can be passed on genetically.

Grooming: The coat is likely to follow the Poodle and this is fair to high grooming. Depending on the length of the coat will tell you if this is needed daily or weekly. Bathing only when really needed as this can dry out the skin and coat.

Living conditions: Given the right amount of daily exercise this dog can live in an apartment but they will require at least a medium size garden. This is an active dog even when indoors and they will need space so a small apartment will not be suitable.
