CHI POO Dog Breed Description, History, Temperament, Health Issues, Grooming and More
Temperament: This dog may be small but it is one of the nicest personalities that you can get for a toy dog. It will depend if the dog follows the Poodle or the Chihuahua but there are areas that these dogs are the same. They are devoted to the owner and if they have the poodle side they will want to be with you all day sat on your lap getting cuddles. They are energetic and although small this dog will want to have daily walks and play sessions to get that energy out, without this the dog can become bored and so gain problems. As this is a bright dog training should be done not just to help the dog but also to allow the dog to know you are the boss. On the whole this dog trains well but they can have a stubborn streak and the owner needs to be calm and a good leader not allowing the dog to gain bad habits. Also the setting of house rules is important so the dog knows their boundaries and limits. Harsh treatment will not help and using positive praise works well with this bright dog. Some of the Chi-Poo dogs do not want to cuddle but by far more do and so this is a dog that likes to cuddle up with you and even go under blankets. Socialize this dog well to help them get on with other dogs and have the skills to cope with new situations such as strangers and busy roads. While you are socializing a young puppy like the Chi-Poo remember to not over protect them and do not treat them as a human baby as this will give the dog many problems such as separation worries and being over protective of you and toys they may have. This is a small dog but they will try, with a lot of mental abilities, to rule the home. This is not the best way to see this lovely dog as they can become snappy and very unhappy. Given the right balance of walks, training, home rules, and love this dog is a wonderful and loyal friend. This dog will do things to amuse you and this shows you how intelligent they are. The Chi-Poo is not recommended for families with small children due only to their size. They get on with other dogs, they are raised with, the best and size will not matter as the Chi-Poo will be the boss.
Health issues: There are some minor health issues for the Chi-Poo and these are dry skin, over active tear glands and dry ear. It would be wise to know the parents health history and to also revue both pure breeds health issues.
Grooming: As with the Poodle, the coat of the Chi-Poo will need a fair to high level of grooming. Brush every few days with a soft brush and have the coat cut every six weeks or so. Bathing every six to eight weeks is fine for this dog.
Living conditions: The Chi-Poo is happy in an apartment and will only require a small garden.
