Description: The Cheeks has other names and these are Chipeke Pek-A-Chi and Pekachu. This is one of the things about designer dogs or hybrid dogs the name is not always just one name. A hybrid is a dog that has come from pure bloodline breeds to make a new dog, so here the Cheeks are a blend of Chihuahua and Pekingese. As with all new hybrids the whole story is not yet told but the best thing to do is to read up on both breeds and know you will be getting a blend of this mixed into the Cheeks. So, to date, the breed is small and is not taller than 15 inches but is likely to be much shorter. They are more commonly measured by weight and in the case of the Cheeks should be no less than 3 pounds and most should be 5 pounds when an adult dog. There is both long and short haired, with the long haired being the most common. The head is wide and slightly large with wide set eyes that are big and round. The muzzle can be short and pointed or it can be smaller and broader, more in keeping with the Pekingese. The ears can be erect and triangular in shape or they can have ears that are floppy and hang downward. The body is small but in good proportion and appears agile. The coat can come in a lot of different colors and a really nice color is the Cheeks that have the Pekingese black mask. All colors are fine and you can get sable, white, tan, blue or slate, red, cream, and a host of others. Life expectancy is 10- 15 years but as this is a new breed we do not know.
History: The parentage is full of history but for this breed the Cheeks it has only just started.
Temperament: The blend of these dogs has given the Cheeks a loyal and loving nature. They are happy to play and have more energy. This is a small dog that is fearless and wants to be with the family, or owner, all the time. The Cheeks is good with children and family but can be wary of strangers to the home. Socialize this dog from a young puppy and they will be more accepting of other dogs and it will help them with new situations. All dogs can do basic training and this helps the dog to know that you are the pack leader so things like heel work and sit, down, and stay can be learnt. Small dog syndrome should be avoided as this is where the dog thinks they are in charge and this leads to problems such as the dog become territorial and over protective. They love attention and with this should come the balance of what is allowed, and what is not, within the house rules. The Cheeks will need walking daily and also mental stimulation daily as they are a bright breed of dog. This is a companion dog and you will find that they are alert and let you know if something is not right.
Health issues: As this is a young breed health issues have yet to come up if at all but check both breeds and also parent health lines. Eye problems can occur due to the large protruding eyes.
Grooming: This is dependent on the length of the coat but weekly grooming should be done, to keep the coat tangle free. If the coat is very long then daily grooming is best.
Living conditions: The Cheeks can live happily in an apartment if given enough daily exercise. They would benefit from a small to medium size garden with good fencing. Visit our home page to see our available Teacup, Tiny Toy and Miniature Puppies For Sale.
